long time no post

I figured this is just as good as any other quote in the world and pretty much sums up what this is.  I found this on another blog so I didn't create it.

Sorry for the lack of updates but this quote comes from hours of watching "Breaking Bad."

It's SOOOO GOOD!

Anyway, in one of the episodes in Season 3, Jesse Pinkman talks about his experience with a teacher and building something for class.  His teacher asked that question [above] after he turned in a really awful assignment.

This quote can basically go a few ways, but generally it's directed to lazy people.

I figured this was an appropriate quote for me and anyone in this field.  It gives a bit of perspective because in this industry alot of the excuses that keep us from asking these questions can be, but not limited to:

  •  Deadlines
  • Money
  • Client
  • Resources
  • Laziness

All of these are along the same line except maybe, the laziness, but that's a different issue.

In this industry, you have to be completely and utterly passionate about what you want to do because most of the time it's a thankless job.  So you have to create the your own drive.

The art is for you so treat it that way.

In a way, that statement is pretty false because it will in the end reach a client that will pay for your services but for that moment that your hands on it you can do what you please as long as you stay in the parameters.

For example, if you have to animate a dancing waffle.  Don't just make him jump around, make him dance like a rotund man that just got some cake in his belly. [idk where that came from]

In many cases that I run into, it's not that I haven't done everything in my power, but I don't know what I'm looking to improve.

So I pretty much go through this process:
  1. Look at something you've done
  2. Ask yourself if you've done everything you could in your power to make it awesome
  3. Ask someone else to look at it.

And in the end, I get to collaborate with my peers and make something more awesome that I ever could imagine. [if that makes any sense]

I'll take back my original quote and give you this:

YOU HAVE POTENTIAL to be even more AWESOME!

So keep working and make something GREAT!

Don't ask "why" if your reply to the answer is "I know."
Why ask if "you know"

I've caught myself doing this several times. . When learning something new I tend to apply it to things that I already know which is natural in human being, trying to relate it to one another.  Sometimes this goes over board [personally] and it completely shuts me out of the idea of this brand new concept.

In a way, when I say "I know" to myself, I close myself off and by the time they are able to answer my question I stopped listening.

I'm not saying that you should never ask questions when you're confused.
Just the opposite, ASK AWAY!
But there should be a level of openness since you're looking for an answer.

And sometimes what you already know can get you the answer and
and the person answer is the one guiding you the the answers from what you know to what you don't

Although, it may be something that's common sense but it's a different way of thinking about it.

Basically,
If you ask a question, just shut up and listen
You'll get more out of it than sitting filtering out what the person's saying.

Go learn something
